Privacy Policy

Overview

SPILL ("the App") is a mobile party game developed and operated by The Hale ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how the App works.

The short version: we collect almost nothing. SPILL is designed to run entirely on your device. We don't create user accounts, we don't store your data on our servers, and we don't sell anything to anyone.

This Privacy Policy explains what limited information is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

Data We Collect

SPILL is a privacy-first app. Here is a breakdown of what data exists and where it lives:

Data stored locally on your device

All game data is stored on your device using local storage (MMKV). This includes:

• Player names you enter for game sessions
• Game preferences and settings (e.g., sip intensity, default mode)
• Game statistics (rounds played, games completed)
• Purchase records (which modes/themes you've unlocked)
• Power-up inventory counts
• Streak and session history

This data never leaves your device. We cannot access it, and we do not sync it to any server. If you delete the App, this data is permanently erased.

Data we do NOT collect

• Names, email addresses, or contact information
• Location data
• Photos or videos (recordings stay on your device)
• Contacts or address book data
• Browsing or search history
• Health or fitness data
• Financial information (purchases are handled entirely by Apple/Google)

Camera & Microphone

SPILL includes an optional recording feature that lets you capture moments during gameplay to share on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or other platforms.

• Camera and microphone permissions are requested only when you tap the record button — never at app launch or during onboarding.
• Video is recorded and processed entirely on your device.
• The SPILL prompt overlay and watermark are composited into the video locally using on-device video processing.
• Recorded videos are saved to your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
• You choose if and where to share the video. We do not automatically upload or transmit recordings.

You can revoke camera and microphone permissions at any time through your device's Settings app. The game works fully without these permissions — recording is entirely optional.

In-App Purchases

SPILL offers one-time in-app purchases (no subscriptions) for additional game modes, card themes, power-up packs, and a lifetime access bundle. All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

• We do not collect or store your payment information. All transactions are handled by Apple or Google.
• We use RevenueCat as our purchase management platform to verify purchase entitlements and restore purchases across devices.
• RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase transaction data from the app stores. It does not receive your name, email, or payment details.

Analytics

We use analytics to understand how people use SPILL so we can improve the experience. Our analytics are designed to be privacy-respecting:

• We use PostHog and/or Mixpanel for anonymized usage analytics.
• Data collected includes: app opens, screens viewed, game modes played, session duration, and feature usage patterns.
• Analytics data is anonymized — it is not tied to your identity, name, email, or any personally identifiable information.
• We do not use analytics for advertising or sell analytics data to third parties.
• Device-level identifiers (such as IDFA on iOS) are not collected unless you explicitly opt in via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.

Third-Party Services

SPILL integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data:

We do not use any advertising SDKs, social login providers, or data brokers.

Data Storage & Retention

SPILL does not have user accounts or a backend database. All personal game data is stored locally on your device.

• Local data: Stored on your device via MMKV. Persists until you delete the App or clear app data.
• Purchase records: Maintained by Apple/Google and RevenueCat for purchase restoration. These persist independently of the App.
• Analytics data: Retained by our analytics provider in anonymized, aggregated form. Individual event data is typically retained for 12-24 months.

To delete all local data: Simply uninstall SPILL from your device. All locally stored game data, settings, and statistics will be permanently removed.

Children's Privacy

SPILL is rated 17+ on iOS and High Maturity on Android due to alcohol references. The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

The App includes an age gate at first launch. Users must confirm they are of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction before accessing the App.

If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App, please contact us at privacy@spillthegame.com.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

• Right to access: You can request a copy of any data we process about you. Since we store almost no personal data, this is typically limited to anonymized analytics events.
• Right to rectification: You can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure: You can ask us to delete your data. For local data, simply uninstall the App. For analytics data, contact us and we will work with our providers to remove your data.
• Right to restrict processing: You can ask us to limit how we use your data.
• Right to data portability: You can request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Right to object: You can object to the processing of your data for analytics purposes.

Legal basis for processing: We process anonymized analytics data based on our legitimate interest in improving the App. Purchase verification data is processed as necessary to fulfill our contract with you (delivering purchased content).

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• Right to know: You can request details about the categories of personal information we collect and how it is used.
• Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information. Since all game data is stored locally, uninstalling the App deletes it.
• Right to opt-out of sale: We do not sell your personal information to any third party. Ever.
• Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Apple & Google Disclosures

Apple App Store (iOS)

In accordance with Apple's App Privacy requirements, here is our App Privacy "nutrition label":

• Data Not Linked to You: Analytics data (anonymized usage events)
• Data Not Collected: Contact info, health & fitness, financial info, location, contacts, user content, browsing history, search history, identifiers, diagnostics, sensitive info

SPILL does not use Apple's IDFA for tracking. If the App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown, selecting "Ask App Not to Track" will have no impact on App functionality.

Google Play Store (Android)

In accordance with Google's Data Safety requirements:

• Data shared with third parties: Anonymized analytics events (not linked to identity)
• Data collected: App interactions and diagnostics (anonymized)
• Security: Data in transit is encrypted
• Data deletion: Uninstall the App to delete all local data. Contact us to request deletion of analytics data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of SPILL after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
